  • The RTI Act came into force on the 12th October, 2005 (12th day of its enactment on 15th June, 2005).

  • The Act extends to the whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir.

  • It includes the following Rights –

                          1.  To inspect works, documents & records.

                          2.  To take notes, extracts & certified copies of documents or records.

                          3.  To take certified samples of material.

                          4.  To obtain information in form of printouts, diskettes, floppies, tapes, video cassettes etc.


  •  A request for obtaining information under sub-section (1) of section 6 shall be accompanied by an application fee of Rupees 10/- by way of cash against proper receipt or by demand or bankers cheque or Indian Postal Order payable to the Accounts Officer of the public authority. Where the request is addressed to CPIO, CCW, AIR, the Accounts officer shall be “Section Officer (cash), CCW, AIR, 6th floor, Soochna Bhawan, CGO Complex, Lodi  Road. New Delhi.
